As a holiday destination, Swansea is a popular venue thanks to its accessibility. There are several ways visitors can get into Swansea, including by road, by air and by sea.

If you prefer to travel on the road, you may opt to enter Swansea by car, by bus or by train.

To get to Swansea by car, travellers will have to take the M4 motorway, which links to Cardiff and London and has various connections to the M50, M42, M32, M6 and M5.

If you prefer to take the bus, there are two major companies that service Swansea. The National Express covers London, the Midlands, Cardiff and Heathrow Airport. Tickets are available at the city bus station. The First Cymru company runs from the Quadrant Bus Station in Swansea to the Central Station in Cardiff . Tickets are available aboard the bus.

The main airport that services the city is Swansea’s own regional airport, which caters to light aircraft only. Complementing the regional airport is the Cardiff International Airport, which is a short 50 minute drive from Swansea. The Cardiff airport offers domestic flights and international flights to Europe, North America, and Africa. There is also a third airport that services Swansea, the Pembrey Airport, about 17 miles west of Swansea and has charter flights to UK and Europe destinations.

For a leisurely train ride into the city, the Great Western Trains (tel. nos. 8457 48 49 50) offers a comprehensive regular service to Swansea Station from the London Paddington Station. The regular stops on the route cover Neath, Port Talbot Parkway, Bridgend, Cardiff Central, Newport, Bristol Parkway, Swindon and Reading.

Arriva Trains offers a service from the Cardiff International Airport to Swansea, with a change at Bridgend. Arriva also has a service that runs Swansea’s west routes.  Make sure to seat on the left side to get the best views of surrounding countryside. On the other hand, if enjoying spectacular scenery is important to you, a train ride on the popular Heart of Wales Line will be something to remember. The line travels from Swansea to the historic town of Shrewsbury. The ride takes about three hours and 40 minutes, with regular trips from Swansea scheduled at 4:36 a.m., 09:15 a.m., 1:17 p.m. and 6:21 p.m.

Visitors from Cork, Ireland regularly visit the city through the Swansea-Cork Ferries. There are six ferries that travel to the city every week, except during autumn and winter when the schedule is reduced. Meanwhile, private boats may be moored at Swansea Marina, which has 750 berths.

Once inside Swansea, the most convenient means of travel are buses and taxis. Raking the bus is also a great way to get around the city. There are two Park and Ride systems that travellers can choose from at the National Park and Ride Directory.  One of the systems is in Landore on the A4067 while the other is on the Fabian Way on A483, located on the main artery as you enter Swansea from the M4 (junction 42). A charge of £1.50 covers all-day parking (if you brought a car) as well as return bus travel for four passengers. The bus systems are in service from 6:45 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. from Monday to Saturday.

In addition, the First Bus Company provides services that connect all the suburbs of Swansea as well as surrounding suburbs, including the Gower Peninsula. There are also links to the historic railway station of Swansea. Meanwhile, from Mumbles, tourists can take the bus to Oystermouth, Limeslade, Langland, Newton and Caswell.

Taxis are abundant in the city centre, specifically, near the Railway Station and St. Mary’s church.
